This post will be updated as announcements come out for start times for 11/7 - 11/11 from the twelve day selection process that most TV networks adhere to (well, under twelve days for the MAC but you get the picture). Please understand that games can be held until next Sunday if a broadcaster wants to wait on the results of the Week Ten games. Most conferences have the possibility of having all or part of their games held for a six day hold of the start time.
Six day picks used coming into Week Eleven's selections: ACC (2 of 4), American (1 of 2), Big 12 (1 of 4), Big Ten (1 of 4 ???), SEC (1 of 2), Pac-12 (2 of 4, ESPN and FOX each have one left to use). I don't know how many six day holds the Big Ten has as part of their new TV deal. Per LandOf10, night games must be picked on a 12 day basis.

What windows are open for all the 6 day holds?
ReplyDeleteAt the top, the link in "here is the current schedule", goes to week 11. From there, click Available TV Windows at the top.
Deletesaw your tweet after the fact also
ReplyDeleteI don't know why ABC doesn't just choose Notre Dame and Miami for its prime time game for 11/11. Even if both teams lose, it's still probably going to be the most popular game of the week (maybe TCU-Oklahoma).
ReplyDeleteI think TCU-Oklahoma is that other game. But it's a slight chance & poetically depends on the Bedlam result in the first place.
DeleteHonestly I'd argue it's a bit easier to follow on the main page. Assuming I did the correctly:
ReplyDeleteABC Noon/3:30/8
ESPN 3:30
ESPN2 Noon/3:30
ESPNU 3:30
ACC OTA Noon
ACC RSN 3:30
FOX 8
That's nine windows for ten games. So I guess an ACC OTA double-header is in play?
You have 10 windows listed. No ACC OTA split window.
ReplyDeleteThe six ACC games, two Big 12, plus Iowa-Wisconsin (ABC or ESPN) & West Virginia-Kansas St. (ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU), which are locked to 3:30pm.
I think we can assume that: (1) ESPN had the first Big 12 selection (I don't think they would hold off on Notre Dame-Miami for the 8pm slot if their fallback option was Oklahoma State-Iowa State, and (2) either or both of Penn State and Michigan State vetoed a night game, as it would seem that game would be a better prime time option than Oklahoma State-Iowa State (or Oklahoma-TCU if that game fell to the second Big 12 selection).
ReplyDeleteIs it confirmed that FOX will air a Big 12 game in prime time on November 11?
ReplyDeleteIf that is true then what other reasonable option is there for ABC other than Notre Dame-Miami that night in prime time? The Big 12 isn't going to allow both ABC and FOX to air prime time games to air against each other are they? Michigan State-Ohio State is already scheduled. ABC isn't allowed to air SEC games I believe and there isn't any other ACC game even close to Notre Dame-Miami.
Yes, FOX has a 8pm opening and all the other Big Ten and Pac-12 games are taken. Only conference not filled that FOX can air is the Big 12. FOX and ABC can, and have in the past, aired concurrent Big 12 night games (most recent is 11/21/15 with Baylor-OK St. on FOX at 7:30pm ET and TCU-Oklahoma at 8pm on ABC).
ReplyDeleteTo me, no matter who wins Bedlam or who wins ISU-WV, TCU-Oklahoma is the #1 Big 12 game on attractiveness because Oklahoma is the top draw in the conference not counting Texas, no matter whether Oklahoma or Oklahoma State is better (plus Oklahoma has Baker Mayfield).
ReplyDeleteSo it really should be:
ABC: 3:30pm TCU-Oklahoma, 8pm Notre Dame-Miami (College Gameday from Miami)
FOX: 8pm Oklahoma State-Iowa State
Matt, love your site and thank you for responding to our comments!
ReplyDeleteMoving over to the SEC, how many Alabama games has CBS aired so far this year? If I remember correctly one year CBS had reached its limit of Alabama games and couldn't air the Iron Bowl. I guarantee they won't allow that to happen again. So if Alabama has only one remaining, there's no way they take Alabama-Mississippi State and give up the Iron Bowl.
Is it just me or does Alabama-LSU always air on CBS in prime time in early November? Is that in CBS's contract?
Alabama has been on CBS three times out of a maximum of five this season*. You can find that on the SEC page on my site.

*They can get a 6th appearance in special circumstances if CBS wants it. Its a wildcard system that CBS triggered for Florida about ten years ago and for Alabama in 2015 after not taking the Iron Bowl in 2014 for the situation you mentioned above.
Anyways, CBS can take the Mississippi St. and Auburn games without an issue (they won't be taking Mercer on 11/18). Georgia is OK as well as CBS could take the Auburn & Kentucky game on 11/18 to get to a max of five for UGA, then take the Iron Bowl on 11/25. Auburn has only one CBS appearance so far and Georgia's final game is at Georgia Tech.
As for Alabama-LSU, they seem to really like it but its not mandated for them to take it. Florida-Georgia has been mandated to be played in mid-afternoon through the life of the CBS contract, which pretty much guarantees it to air on CBS.
