CFB TV Confirmations for 2023 Week 6

This post will be updated as announcements come out for start times for 10/7/23 from the (mostly) twelve day selection process that most TV networks adhere to. Most conferences have the possibility of having all or part of their scheduled games held for a six day hold for the start time and/or the TV network.
The list of available TV windows are based on media websites, TV listings and press releases. They can change based on the needs of the broadcaster or the conference.

Here's what I guessed based on the available openings (they will prove to be incorrect), along with the games that have already been set

There's also a handful of rules that both conferences and TV networks have put into their agreements which affect these selections, which are updated weekly and can be found here.

CFB TV Guesses for 2023 Week 6 (10/7/23)

Here are the games already set for television and/or webcast. Here are the known available telecast windows.

I have done my best to list what TV windows are out there. Every listing service has a little different schedule for these networks. It is also possible that a window could be eliminated or the time of a window could shift slightly to accommodate a network's needs.

Instead of cluttering up these posts even more, I'll try to keep track of the unique conference TV arrangements in a separate post.

A few notes and considerations:

* These games either have been selected by a TV partner or have a specific start times as an option:
  • Purdue at Iowa: 3:30pm, 4pm or 7:30pm ET (homecoming)
  • Maryland at Ohio State: 12pm, 3:30pm or 4pm ET (homecoming)
  • Rutgers at Wisconsin: 12pm, 3:30pm or 4pm ET (homecoming)
  • Fresno State at Wyoming: FOX, FS1 or FS2
  • Arizona at USC: ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU
  • Oklahoma vs. Texas: ABC at 12pm or 3:30pm ET
  • Howard at Northwestern: 3pm ET (homecoming)
* UMass is supposed to have one game per season on ESPN's linear TV channels.  This appears to be the best option for the rest of the season.
* Listings have no games on FS1.  Suppose its possible that the 8pm game could move over to FS1 if FOX was to carry an ALDS game.  Either way, FS2 has a game window tentatively scheduled for 9:30pm ET.
* ACC Network lists the game windows but I think there's a good reason to drop the noon window to get other games on ESPN & ESPN2.
* Some listing services show three Pac-12 Network games. I can make a case for only two being needed. If only two are needed, bring back that third ACC Network window and reconfigure things.
* If a six day hold were to be used, I look to the ACC for the place to use it.

CFB TV Guesses for 2023 Week 5 (9/30/23)

Here are the games already set for television and/or webcast. Here are the known available telecast windows.

I have done my best to list what TV windows are out there. Every listing service has a little different schedule for these networks. It is also possible that a window could be eliminated or the time of a window could shift slightly to accommodate a network's needs.

Instead of cluttering up these posts even more, I'll try to keep track of the unique conference TV arrangements in a separate post.

A few notes and considerations:

* A handful of games are intended for television windows at specific times and/or TV networks (all times Eastern):
  • Louisiana at Minnesota (12pm)
  • Illinois at Purdue (3:30pm, 4pm or 7:30pm)
  • Nevada at Fresno State (Time TBA, FOX/FS1/FS2)
* Peacock lists a 3:30pm Big Ten game for themselves exclusively in their app.
* FOX does not have a 7pm window due to MLB.  They previously intended to carry a 10pm game on the broadcast network, but deleted it.  I assume this was due to the added broadcast network window from last week.
* ESPN has listed their evening windows at 6pm & 9pm, which indicates a doubleheader of SEC games.
* FS1 has a NASCAR Truck Series race at 1pm ET, so FS1 will not have an early afternoon window.
* FS2 appears to have a pair of windows at 12pm and 3:30pm ET.
* Starting with this week, expect BTN to only carry doubleheaders due to intended women's volleyball matches on Saturday evenings.
* FOX does have the top choice for the Pac-12, per Jon Wilner of Bay Area News Group.  I gave FOX the top Big Ten choice too and ABC the top Big 12 choice (actually the top two with the Big 12).
* I think its possible that you'll see at least one window from ACC Network or SEC Network be deleted to help fill ESPN2 or ESPNU. Clemson at Syracuse would be at the top of that list.

CFB TV Guesses for 2023 Week 4 (9/23/23)

Here are the games already set for television and/or webcast. Here are the known available telecast windows.

I have done my best to list what TV windows are out there. Every listing service has a little different schedule for these networks. It is also possible that a window could be eliminated or the time of a window could shift slightly to accommodate a network's needs.

Instead of cluttering up these posts even more, I'll try to keep track of the unique conference TV arrangements in a separate post.

A few notes and considerations:

* One Big Ten game has been set for a start time with no TV yet: Rutgers at Michigan (12pm)
* Because of Ohio State at Notre Dame being in primetime on NBC, their Big Ten controlled game will be at 3:30pm. On Saturday evening, NBC confirmed their choice of Maryland at Michigan State.
* FOX originally had three games listed on their schedule for this week, but added a fourth game.  I considered two possibilities and went with the latter.
  • Rutgers at Michigan - As mentioned above, this one is already scheduled for a noon start. Weighed placing it on FOX vs. BTN.  Looked over Michigan's schedule and this seemed to be their BTN game instead of Indiana, but it wouldn't surprise me.
  • USC at Arizona State - This one would have to be at 10:30pm as Arizona requires late evening games in September, though exceptions can be made.
I also think that Wisconsin at Purdue being on FS1 at night is part of the thought process to not add a second Big Ten game into the FOX Sports schedule

* For those tracking order of picks, CBS likely used the top Big Ten selection on 9/23 for Penn State-Iowa (selected back in the spring), FOX the top Big 12 selection on Oklahoma-Cincinnati and ESPN the top Pac-12 choice on Colorado-Oregon.
