CFB TV Confirmations for 2021 Week 10 (11/2/21 - 11/6/21)

Note: Next week's guesses and TV confirmation posts may not happen.  If they do, you'll find notifications at the usual places.  Since I do approve comments (solely for spam reasons), those might not appear right away if you ask a question.

This post will be updated as announcements come out for start times for 11/2/21 - 11/6/21 from the twelve day selection process that most TV networks adhere to. Most conferences have the possibility of having all or part of their games held for a six day hold of the start time.

The list of available TV windows are based on media websites, TV listings and press releases. They can change based on the needs of the broadcaster or the conference.

Here's what I guessed based on the available openings (they will prove to be incorrect), along with the games that have already been set.

Also, here's the dates where six day holds have been used for large discrepancies in start time and/or media group family.  Unless noted, most conferences can have six day holds used against them four times a season.

*Jon Wilner from Bay Area News Group listed the Pac-12 start time options as 3:30pm, 7:30pm or 10:30pm ET, which would seem to eliminate FS1 if the TV option starts at 7pm ET.  If its 7:30pm ET, I guess its in play.  With the late evening window on FS1 starting at 11pm ET, there's a little bit of slack for when the evening window starts.

CFB TV Guesses for 2021 Week 10 (11/2/21 - 11/6/21)

Here are the games already set for television and/or webcast. Here are the known available telecast windows.

I have done my best to list what TV windows are out there. Every listing service has a little different schedule for these networks. It is also possible that a window could be eliminated or the time of a window could shift slightly to accommodate a network's needs.

Some considerations you may want to be aware of

The following games have been reserved in advance, but not had their specific network and/or start time set:
  • San Diego State at Hawai'i (FOX, FS1 or FS2)
  • San Jose State at Nevada (FOX, FS1 or FS2)
Some early trends to consider:

Big Ten
* Top choice, at least how I'm reading them:
  • ESPN Networks: 9/18, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/11, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9
* Michigan and Penn State need to appear once on BTN against another Big Ten opponent.
* Counting future selections
  • ESPN Networks: 20 out of 27
    • Seven in primetime (including weeknights), one over the minimum of six.
  • FOX Sports: 20 out of a range of 24-27 selections
    • Six in primetime (including weeknights) with a maximum of nine.
Big 12
* More of an even split in terms of top Saturday choice
  • ESPN Networks: 9/11, 9/25, 10/9, 10/16, 10/30
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/18, 10/2, 10/23
* After they eclipsed 23 selections for ESPN Networks (excluding member retained games), I'm going to assume the new number of 32 selections for ESPN Networks is accurate. Using 32 as the new maximum number, ESPN has reserved 24 Big 12 games
* The minimum of at least 25 games total on ABC, FOX, ESPN or FS1 has been reached.

Pac-12
* In terms of Saturday top choice, I think this is the following split, though the Pac-12's use of priority selections where both ESPN and FOX can choose a game in advance of the weekly draft order skews this somewhat.
  • ESPN Networks:  9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/23
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 10/16, 10/30
* ESPN Networks has used 15 of their 22 selections and must air one more game on ABC that is in primetime on the east coast.
* FOX Sports has used 17 of their 22 selections.  One more game must air on FOX and there is no restriction as to which TV window must be used.

SEC
CBS has a limit of five appearances for a SEC school (rare exceptions allow for six, but lets set that aside).  Alabama, Arkansas and Georgia have each been scheduled for CBS three times.

Six day holds already used
Here's the dates where six day holds have been used for large discrepancies in start time and/or media group family.  Unless noted, most conferences can have six day holds used against them four times a season.

Typically, the network using the six day hold isn't clear until after the games being held are set for TV.

ACC: 0
American: 0
Big 12: 2 (10/16 by ESPN, 10/23 by FOX)
Big Ten: 0
MW: 1 (10/16)
Pac-12: 1 (10/30 by FOX, 2 each are available to FOX Sports and ESPN Networks)
SEC: 2 of either 2 or 3 six day holds available (10/9 by CBS. 10/16 by ESPN)

Now to the guesses.  All times Eastern:

Tuesday
7pm CBSSN: Ball State at Akron
7:30pm ESPN2: Eastern Michigan at Toledo
7:30pm ESPNU: Miami (OH) at Ohio

Wednesday
7pm ESPN2: Northern Illinois at Kent State
7pm ESPNU: Central Michigan at Western Michigan

Saturday
12pm ABC: Michigan State at Purdue
12pm FOX: Texas at Iowa State
12pm ESPN: Auburn at Texas A&M
12pm ESPN2: Mississippi State at Arkansas
12pm FS1: Kansas State at Kansas
12pm ESPNU: SMU at Memphis
12pm SECN: Florida at South Carolina
12pm BTN: Indiana at Michigan
12pm ACCN: Clemson at Louisville
12:30pm ACC RSN: Georgia Tech at Miami (FL)
3:30pm ABC: Ohio State at Nebraska
3:30pm CBS: Missouri at Georgia
3:30pm ESPN: Oklahoma State at West Virginia
3:30pm ESPN2: Wake Forest at North Carolina
3:30pm FS1: Wisconsin at Rutgers
3:30pm ESPNU: Houston at USF
3:30pm BTN: Illinois at Minnesota
4pm FOX: Iowa at Northwestern
4pm SECN: Liberty at Ole Miss
4pm ACCN: Pitt at Duke
4pm Pac-12: California at Arizona
7pm ESPN: LSU at Alabama
7pm ESPN2: Tulsa at Cincinnati
7pm FS1: Baylor at TCU
7pm ESPNU: Coastal Carolina at Georgia Southern
7:30pm ABC: Oregon at Washington
7:30pm SECN: Tennessee at Kentucky
7:30pm ACCN: NC State at Florida State
8pm FOX: Penn State at Maryland
9:30pm Pac-12: Oregon State at Colorado
10:30pm ESPN: USC at Arizona State
10:30pm FS1: San Diego State at Hawai'i
10:30pm FS2: San Jose State at Nevada

Streaming
Temple at ECU
Tulane at UCF
Appalachian State at Arkansas State
South Alabama at Troy
ULM at Texas State

* EDIT: I straight up didn't know that UTEP is 6-1 along with UTSA being ranked and undefeated. ESPN has rights to the game and does have the option to elevate the game to linear TV from its ESPN3/ESPN+ options. Apparently, it's being considered for a time change and TV. I could see it occupying one of the ESPNU slots, maybe instead of Coastal Carolina at Georgia Southern.
* I deleted 10:30pm ESPN2 window.  Online listed indicated two Pac-12 Networks games, so I couldn't find a use for two Pac-12 games in late night.
* I gave the top Big Ten and Pac-12 games to ESPN Networks and the top Big 12 game to FOX Sports.
* Auburn at Texas A&M might be a better choice for CBS, but at the moment my preference is to max out on Georgia, which they could do by choosing both the Missouri game followed by the Tennessee game on.  CBS *might* have another six day hold to use as its either two or three six day holds to use on the SEC.  One was used on 10/9 by CBS for their 3:30pm window (2nd choice that day before ESPN's 1st) and one was used by ESPN on 10/16 for their 3rd choice before CBS's 2nd choice.
* By choosing Missouri at Georgia, yes, I'm also passing off LSU at Alabama to ESPN, which means I'm keeping Alabama alive for two games vs. Arkansas and Auburn for CBS.  The last time ESPN aired a regular season LSU-Alabama matchup was 2006.  They also aired the BCS title game between the two after the 2011 season.
* I used the Pac-12 at night here on ABC to fulfill their required primetime game.  I know Washington is bad and that Oregon at Utah might be a better choice on 11/20, but:
  • I don't know who has first pick and whether a priority pick was used for another game that day by either FOX or ESPN.
  • Pitt at Virginia and Iowa State at Oklahoma might be as good or better options
    • Same applies to Iowa State at Oklahoma - don't know who has what
* I do think there's a realistic chance of a six day hold being used for the Big Ten and that might affect whether Michigan or Penn State has their required BTN appearance, along with the network choices for Michigan State and Iowa.  Right now, I'm assuming Michigan will have their BTN appearance used, but do not consider this to be a guess as to the winner of Michigan State vs. Michigan.

CFB TV Guesses for 2021 Week 9 (10/30/21)

Here are the games already set for television and/or webcast. Here are the known available telecast windows.

I have done my best to list what TV windows are out there. Every listing service has a little different schedule for these networks. It is also possible that a window could be eliminated or the time of a window could shift slightly to accommodate a network's needs.

Some considerations you may want to be aware of

* All remaining SEC selections for this week belong with ESPN as CBS chose their game in advance.
* The following games were preselected but not set for a specific start time:
  • Wyoming at San Jose State (FOX Sports)
  • Florida State at Clemson (ABC, ESPN or ESPN2)
* The following games have had their start times set in advance as homecoming games
  • Indiana at Maryland (12pm)
  • Iowa at Wisconsin (12pm)
* An ACC RSN doubleheader is scheduled at 12pm & 3:30pm.
* FOX has no night game due to the World Series.
* FS1 is scheduled to carry a NASCAR Truck Series race in the early afternoon
* BTN is scheduled to carry volleyball in the primetime slot
* ACC Network does not have an early afternoon window

Some early trends to consider:

Big Ten
* Not as even of a split in terms of top choice right now:
  • ESPN Networks: 9/18, 10/16, 10/23
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/11, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9
* Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and Penn State needs to appear once on BTN against another Big Ten opponent.  In the case of Minnesota, it is once more against a Big Ten school as they did not have any non-conference games on BTN.
* Counting future selections
  • ESPN Networks: 17 out of 27
    • Six in primetime (including weeknights), which is their minimum
  • FOX Sports: 19 out of a range of 24-27 selections
    • Six in primetime (including weeknights) with a maximum of nine.
Big 12
* More of an even split in terms of top Saturday choice
  • ESPN Networks: 9/11, 9/25, 10/9, 10/16
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/18, 10/2, 10/23
* I'm assuming Oklahoma State at Iowa State was the top choice for 10/16 once six day holds were finalized and went to FOX.
* ESPN Networks has used 20 of their 23 selections.  I realize that this is a discussion point because the Big 12 limit is rapidly approaching and have reached out to multiple people regarding the number of selections that I'm using as a guideline.
* At least 24 games have been earmarked for ABC, FOX, ESPN or FS1 out of a minimum of 25 games.

Pac-12
* In terms of Saturday top choice, I think this is the following split, though the Pac-12's use of priority selections where both ESPN and FOX can choose a game in advance of the weekly draft order skews this somewhat. I did have FOX Sports with the 10/9 selection top choice and I think its safe to question whether that was correct with Stanford at Oregon on ABC, so I'm going to move 10/9 over to the ESPN side
  • ESPN Networks:  9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/23
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 10/16
* ESPN Networks has used 13 of their 22 selections and must air one more game on ABC that is in primetime on the east coast.
* FOX Sports has used 14 of their 22 selections.  Two more games must air on FOX and there is no restriction as to which TV window must be used.

SEC
CBS has a limit of five appearances for a SEC school (rare exceptions allow for six, but lets set that aside).  Alabama, Arkansas and Georgia have each been scheduled for CBS three times.

Now to the guesses.  All times Eastern:

12pm ABC: Michigan at Michigan State
12pm FOX: Iowa at Wisconsin
12pm ESPN: Kansas at Oklahoma State
12pm ESPN2: Indiana at Maryland
12pm ESPNU: SMU at Houston
12pm SECN: Kentucky at Mississippi State
12pm BTN: Northwestern at Minnesota
12pm ACC RSN: Boston College at Syracuse
3pm FS1: Iowa State at West Virginia
3:30pm ABC: Texas at Baylor
3:30pm FOX: Texas Tech at Oklahoma
3:30pm ESPN: Cincinnati at Tulane
3:30pm ESPN2: Purdue at Nebraska
3:30pm ESPNU: Virginia at BYU
3:30pm BTN: Rutgers at Illinois
3:30pm ACC RSN: Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech
4pm SECN: Missouri at Vanderbilt
4pm ACCN: Louisville at NC State
4:30pm FS2: Wyoming at San Jose State
6pm Pac-12: Washington State at Arizona State
6:30pm FS1: TCU at Kansas State
7pm ESPN: Florida State at Clemson
7pm ESPN2: Duke at Wake Forest
7pm ESPNU: Texas State at Louisiana
7pm Pac-12: Arizona at USC
7:30pm ABC: Penn State at Ohio State
7:30pm SECN: Ole Miss at Auburn
7:30pm ACCN: Miami (FL) at Pitt
10pm FS1: UCLA at Utah
10pm Pac-12: Oregon State at California
10:30pm ESPN: Colorado at Oregon
10:30pm ESPN2: Washington at Stanford

Streaming To Be Determined
UCF at Temple
Arkansas State at South Alabama
Georgia State at Georgia Southern
ULM at Appalachian State

Things you can, and probably should, question and quibble about
* The way I have the Big Ten set up, I have ESPN taking the top two games. Not unheard of and if you look back at how selections for 10/9 shook out, I think it's reasonable to say that FOX Sports had the top two Big Ten games that day.
* Yes, I'm really struggling with what the limit is for ESPN and the Big 12.
* I gave the top Big 12 selection to FOX Sports and the top of the Pac-12 to ESPN.
* I think its reasonable to see a path for another Big 12 six day hold to be used.
* I had to adjust FS1's TV windows to have Utah host at 8pm local time, pushing their 7pm window up 30 minutes as well.
* Unless the SEC Network drops one of its windows for 10/30 like the ACC Network has, all of the SEC's remaining games go to SEC Network this particular week.  If they were to delete one of the SEC Network windows, I can see Ole Miss at Auburn being placed on ESPN with cascading moves at 12pm on ESPN.

CFB TV Guesses for 2021 Week 8 (10/23/21)

Here are the games already set for television and/or webcast. Here are the known available telecast windows.

I have done my best to list what TV windows are out there. Every listing service has a little different schedule for these networks. It is also possible that a window could be eliminated or the time of a window could shift slightly to accommodate a network's needs.

Some considerations you may want to be aware of

* ESPN has no late evening window due to a Top Rank boxing card.
* CBS Sports Network has a mid-afternoon MAC game.
* FOX Sports has preselected the following games:
  • Nevada at Fresno State
* ESPN Networks has preselected the following games
  • Cincinnati at Navy
    • This game has also been set for a 12pm start time.
* The following Big Ten games have had their start times set as homecoming games
  • Illinois at Penn State
* My understanding is that FOX is planning for the possibility for both the broadcast network and FS1 to carry a potential Game 7 of the ALCS.  I'm not expecting either network to carry games at night.
* BTN has two volleyball matches scheduled for 10/23 and I believe both are intended to air live. Volleyball is typically put in a two hour window, so airing both matches live world be a four hour programming commitment. Because of that, I think there will a possibility of just one CFB window on BTN.

Some early trends to consider:

Big Ten
* Not as even of a split in terms of top choice right now:
  • ESPN Networks: 9/18, 10/16
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/11, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9
* Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and Penn State needs to appear once on BTN against another Big Ten opponent.  In the case of Minnesota, it is once more against a Big Ten school as they did not have any non-conference games on BTN.
* Counting future selections
  • ESPN Networks: 14
    • Five in primetime (including weeknights) with a minimum of six
  • FOX Sports: 18
    • Six in primetime (including weeknights) with a maximum of nine.
Big 12
* More of an even split in terms of top Saturday choice
  • ESPN Networks: 9/11, 9/25, 10/9, 10/16
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/18, 10/2
* I'm making an assumption that TCU-Oklahoma was the 1st choice on 10/16 due to Oklahoma's win over Texas
* ESPN Networks has used 18 of their 23 selections.
* At least 21 games have been earmarked for ABC, FOX, ESPN or FS1 out of a minimum of 25 games.

  • ESPN Networks:  9/25, 10/2, 10/9
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 10/16
* ESPN Networks has used 12 of their 22 selections and must air one more game on ABC that is in primetime on the east coast.
* FOX Sports has used 13 of their 22 selections.  Two more games must air on FOX and there is no restriction as to which TV window must be used.

Now to the guesses.  All times Eastern:

12pm ABC: Illinois at Penn State
12pm FOX: Oklahoma at Kansas
12pm ESPN: Cincinnati at Navy
12pm ESPN2: Wisconsin at Purdue
12pm FS1: West Virginia at TCU
12pm ESPNU: Western Michigan at Toledo
12pm SECN: UAPB at Arkansas
12pm BTN: Northwestern at Michigan
12pm ACCN: UMass at Florida State
12:30pm ACC RSN: Georgia Tech at Virginia

Notes
* Since Arkansas had the Rice game air on ESPN+/SEC+, it cannot have a 2nd game air there, hence the need for it to take up a SEC Network slot.
* With CBS choosing three Alabama games already, I wanted to keep the network's options open for the Arkansas and Auburn games later in November, so I put LSU at Ole Miss in the CBS slot.
* I have the top Big Ten selection with ESPN, top Big 12 with FOX Sports and top Pac-12 with ESPN
* With ESPN setting aside 18 of their 23 Big 12 selections already, I am assuming ESPN will forego Big 12 selections this week.  Conversely, with only five game windows available and one earmarked for the Mountain West, I think FOX will skip on the Big Ten and possibly the Pac-12 too.  I could see ESPN and FOX swapping one Pac-12 and one Big 12 game.
* If BTN does have two unique TV windows, I think you could drop the 10:30pm ESPN2 window and move up one of the Pac-12 games into a window where the Big Ten resides.

CFB TV Confirmations for 2021 Week 7 (10/16/21)

This post will be updated as announcements come out for start times for 10/16/21 from the twelve day selection process that most TV networks adhere to.

CFB TV Guesses for 2021 Week 7 (10/16/21)

Here are the games already set for television and/or webcast. Here are the known available telecast windows.

I have done my best to list what TV windows are out there. Every listing service has a little different schedule for these networks. It is also possible that a window could be eliminated or the time of a window could shift slightly to accommodate a network's needs.

Some considerations you may want to be aware of

* ESPN Networks has preselected Stanford at Washington State
* FOX Sports has preselected two Mountain West games:
  • Air Force at Boise State
  • Fresno State at Wyoming
* These Big Ten games are locked to their start times as homecoming games:
  • Rutgers at Northwestern (12pm)
  • Michigan State at Indiana (12pm)
  • Purdue at Iowa (3:30pm or 4pm)
* CBS has a doubleheader at 12pm and 3:30pm ET.  When this occurs,
  • CBS does NOT have the top two selections, but picks 1st at 3:30pm and 4th at 12pm.  ESPN picks in between.
  • The 12pm CBS game is not an exclusive window for them.  ESPN can air a concurrent game.
  • Historically, this has been a place to use a six day hold.
* FOX Sports is tentatively scheduled to carry ALCS Game 2.  Schedules currently have both FOX and FS1 carrying the game at that time, likely for a simulcast of FOX's airing for an alternate presentation on FS1.  Because of listings showing the game on both networks, I have no afternoon game on FS1.
* CBS Sports Network has a MAC selection at 3:30pm ET.
* At the moment, ACC Network isn't carrying a 12pm game, but it also isn't clear what is being shown instead.  Could be just two games on ACCN based on the number of available games.
* BTN has no mid-afternoon window, airing women's volleyball.  The primetime slot on BTN has already been announced as Army West Point at Wisconsin.
* I went with the top Big Ten choice with ESPN and the top Big 12 and Pac-12 choices with FOX Sports.

Some early trends to consider:

Big Ten
* ESPN appears to have had the top Saturday selection just once (9/18, Auburn at Penn State) and I still expect them to go on a run of top selections, especially with FOX using what appears to be their seven top choices.
* Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and Penn State needs to appear once on BTN against another Big Ten opponent.  In the case of Minnesota, it is once more against a Big Ten school as they did not have any non-conference games on BTN.
* Counting future selections
  • ESPN Networks: 12
    • Five in primetime (including weeknights) with a minimum of six
  • FOX Sports: 17
    • Six in primetime (including weeknights) with a max of nine.
Big 12
* More of an even split in terms of top Saturday choice
  • ESPN Networks: 9/11, 9/25, 10/9
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/18, 10/2
* ESPN Networks has used 14 of their 23 selections.
* At least 18 games have been earmarked for ABC, FOX, ESPN or FS1 out of a minimum of 25 games.

  • ESPN Networks:  9/25, 10/2, 10/9
  • FOX Sports: 9/4, 9/11, 9/18
* ESPN Networks has used 11 of their 22 selections and must air one more game on ABC that is in primetime on the east coast.
* FOX Sports has used 12 of their 22 selections.  Four more games must air on FOX and of those four, one must air in primetime on the east coast.

Now to the guesses.  All times Eastern:

12pm ABC: Michigan State at Indiana
12pm CBS: Auburn at Arkansas
12pm FOX: TCU at Oklahoma
12pm ESPN: Alabama at Mississippi State
12pm ESPN2: NC State at Boston College
12pm FS1: Iowa State at Kansas State
12pm ESPNU: Texas Tech at Kansas
12pm SECN: Vanderbilt at South Carolina
12pm BTN: Rutgers at Northwestern
12:30pm ACC RSN: Duke at Virginia
3:30pm ABC: Purdue at Iowa
3:30pm CBS: Kentucky at Georgia
3:30pm ESPN: UCF at Cincinnati
3:30pm ESPN2: Nebraska at Minnesota
3:30pm CBSSN: Bowling Green at Northern Illinois
3:30pm ESPNU: Kent State at Western Michigan
4pm SECN: Ole Miss at Tennessee
4pm ACCN: Miami (FL) at North Carolina
4pm Pac-12: Arizona at Colorado
4:30pm FS2: Fresno State at Wyoming
7pm ESPN: BYU at Baylor
7pm ESPN2: Texas A&M at Missouri
7pm ESPNU: Liberty at ULM
7:30pm ABC: Oklahoma State at Texas
7:30pm SECN: Florida at LSU
7:30pm ACCN: Pitt at Virginia Tech
8pm FOX: Arizona State at Utah
9pm FS1: Air Force at Boise State
10:30pm ESPN: Stanford at Washington State
10:30pm ESPN2: UCLA at Washington

* I think its realistic to wonder if there will be a six day hold in the Big 12 pending the outcome of Oklahoma-Texas.  If there is, maybe consideration is also given to UCF-Cincinnati and possibly NC State-Boston College as the ABC primetime game.
* Similar situation in the Pac-12 where a six day hold could be used by FOX deciding between Arizona State-Utah and UCLA-Washington.
* With the late windows on ESPN and ESPN2 is at 10:30pm ET, Pac-12 home games cannot be slotted later than 8pm local time (though they did allow a couple last year with no fans in attendance), which means if Arizona State-Utah were to fall here, it would need to be slotted at 10pm ET.
* Why not the Pac-12 in primetime on ABC? Mostly because FOX and ABC try to not have competing games from the Pac-12 in the same TV window.  Also, the two late evening windows left me a bit tied to filling those.
* If Fresno State had beaten Hawai'i, you would have had a very good case to swap the two Mountain West games on FOX Sports.
