CFB TV Guesses for 2023 Week 12 (11/14/23-11/18/23)

Here are the games already set for television and/or webcast. Here are the known available telecast windows.

I have done my best to list what TV windows are out there. Every listing service has a little different schedule for these networks. It is also possible that a window could be eliminated or the time of a window could shift slightly to accommodate a network's needs.

Instead of cluttering up these posts even more, I'll try to keep track of the unique conference TV arrangements in a separate post.

A few notes and considerations:

* Already set for a TV network family or a time, but not both:
  • East Carolina at Navy (ABC/ESPN Networks at 12pm)
  • Harvard at Yale (ESPN Networks)
  • New Mexico at Fresno State
* No late evening window on ESPN due to the Formula 1 grand prix from Las Vegas.
* As part of the six day selections for the SEC for 11/11, CBS also preselected its 11/18 SEC 3:30pm  game.  Head to the link on the first word of this post for that game if you're not aware of it.
* The CW has an ACC  doubleheader. Because of this, ACCN will only have two games.
* I'd prefer to go with Rutgers at Penn State at night, but Penn State has informed NBC that they do not intend to host November night games.  I could see a compromise of Michigan at Maryland being on NBC at night with FOX taking Rutgers at Penn State for their noon game.  I believe Michigan has told NBC they will not *host* November night games, but might be OK with being on the road for one. I went with Nebraska at Wisconsin to stay away from everything.
* Minnesota at Ohio State would be needed to fulfill OSU's requirement of a game on BTN vs. another Big Ten opponent.

Does Wisconsin not have any issue with hosting night games?

Matt Sarzyniak said...

They were not single out in reports as having an issue with them. PSU, OSU and Michigan were.

Arizona State's pathetic. Rutgers is 6-3. Rutgers-Penn State deserves the FOX 4pm slot more.

I can get behind that.

How many 6 day holds does the ACC have left?

Click on the link in the third paragraph.

Shouldn't it only be 3 BTN games on 11/18 - as it would then leave 2 games for 11/25. If 4 games are selected for BTN on 11/18, that would only leave 1 game for BTN and 3 for FOX/FS1. Don't see them putting a game on against OSU/Michigan.

My bad, thanks!

How should we think about the value of the noon BTN games? Do they get 1st pick over the 3:30 games within the network or vice versa? In other words, is Purdue-Northwestern a picked after the earlier BTN matchups?

Matt Sarzyniak said...

I wouldn't think about them too hard or in any type of ordered way.

Matt, it is not about Hosting "November night games" it is about hosting "post daylight time night games". Michigan hosted Purdue without a peep on 11/4. It would be BIG pushback if it were 11/11 or 11/18 - the 11/25 game will always be at noon in the near future.

I am sure the same is true for Penn state, pre-daylight is OK, post daylight is where they state they will not be playing at night

upthread someone asked: How should we think about the value of the noon BTN games? Do they get 1st pick over the 3:30 games within the network or vice versa? In other words, is Purdue-Northwestern a picked after the earlier BTN matchups?

i think there is not a set in stone rule, but all things being equal, they would probably shade on having the ET team host at noon and the CT at 330,
maybe trying to avoid 11 am local kicks ....

"all else being equal" (meaning a behemoth like Michigan or Ohio state isn't part of the equation) - and only if its between host schools in different time zones

Correct, it is DST specifically. I often just go with November but need to be more specific.

My understanding is it's all about which games will flow better into the other to retain an audience, especially if the latter game leads into another event involving a school, like a volleyball match.
