CFB TV Guesses for 2024 Week 10 (11/5/24 - 11/9/24)

Here are the games already set for television and/or webcast. Here are the known available telecast windows.

I have done my best to list what TV windows are out there. Every listing service has a little different schedule for these networks. It is also possible that a window could be eliminated or the time of a window could shift slightly to accommodate a network's needs.

Instead of cluttering up these posts even more, I'll try to keep track of the unique conference TV arrangements in a separate post.

A few notes and considerations:

  • Games set for time or TV, but not both
    • Fresno State at Air Force (TBA, FOX Sports)
    • Nevada at Boise State (TBA, FOX Sports)
    • Florida at Texas (12pm, ABC or ESPN)
    • Informally, Washington at Penn State has been given guidance that their "White Out" game will not be in the noon ET slot.
  • SEC game slotting
    • Early: Florida at Texas
    • Afternoon: South Carolina at Vanderbilt
    • Evening: Mississippi State at Tennessee
    • All others can air in the afternoon or evening
  • It appears that NBC's Big Ten telecast window will be at 12pm ET, which might mean that they've swapped times with FOX.
  • Neither ACC Network nor SEC Network have a telecast window at noon
  • ESPNU will have men's college basketball in primetime and will not have CFB this evening.
  • I gave NBC top choice in the noon slot for the Big Ten, followed by FOX and CBS, and the top Big 12 choice with FOX.
  • A story came out this week that Kansas would request that they play their game vs. Iowa State as early in the day as possible due to the turnaround for the Chiefs game on Sunday at 1pm ET.
  • BTN doesn't have a window listed, and I've been fooled by that before.  I think it is possible that they'll have one at noon ET.  If that's the case, delete FS1's 10:15pm ET window and move Maryland at Oregon to CBS, then move Purdue at Ohio State to BTN at 12pm.  Purdue at Ohio State might be a bloodbath for CBS.  I hear you.
  • I put Nevada at Boise State in the noon ET window on FOX.  Figured this was a good time to showcase Heisman hopeful Ashton Jeanty.  Boise State has had noon ET / 10am local starts on FS1 and CBS before (the CBS game was a Black Friday game and they will this coming Black Friday on FOX), and the Broncos were expected to host Florida State at noon on FOX in 2020 before that season was altered.

I would think Maryland-Oregon would have to be on BTN. Oregon only has Wisconsin and Washington left.

Maybe. But Washington isn't setting the world on fire either. Ohio State has Purdue or Northwestern for their BTN game as they need one.

After November 2nd Penn State don't play night game. Probably Washington @ Penn State is at 3:30pm on CBS.

I believed Penn State don't play night game after November 2nd.

Matt Sarzyniak said...

They made an exception for this possibility with their Whiteout game on 11/9.

BTN has committed to two volleyball games on Nov 9 (Nebraska at Washington, Oregon at Minnesota) so I suspect the football/volleyball windows are fluid.

Penn State at Wisconsin volleyball is already slated for 3:30 ET on NBC

I think Oregon-Maryland ends up on BTN this week. The volleyball games are still TBD for start time, which makes me think they are expecting a football game at a time they can't predict. The weekend of Oregon-Wisconsin (11/16), BTN is looking at Ohio State-Northwestern and Penn State-Purdue, so I don’t think it ends up there. That leaves 11/30. However, when you look at the games available to NBC on 11/30 (and I think they are picking third that week), they are probably locked into Oregon-Washington even if Washington is mediocre:

Minnesota at Wisconsin - Friday
Nebraska at Iowa - Friday
Michigan at Ohio State - FOX
Notre Dame at USC – assume taken by CBS
Rutgers at Michigan State – MSU promised no more night games
Maryland at Penn State – PSU won’t play at night in late November
Fresno State at UCLA – no
Illinois vs. Northwestern – Illinois might need this for their BTN game, not really an NBC prime time caliber game

That leaves you with Purdue at Indiana and Washington at Oregon. Indiana is obviously playing well enough to be on NBC prime time, but Purdue is nowhere close and that game would get killed against Texas-Texas A&M.

Also, BTN has volleyball in the two late windows on 11/30, and I would think UCLA-Fresno State will be the mid-afternoon BTN game.

Washington-Oregon is still a rivalry game and Oregon would be going for a perfect regular season. And unless FOX, CBS, or NBC need it, I don't see any reason to put Maryland-Oregon on FS1 as opposed to BTN, not much difference in cable coverage I would think.

As of late 2022, which is the last screen grab I have of network subscribers numbers, FS1 had 73 million and BTN was just under 50 million. Even if adding the West Coast to sub added to BTNs number, I bet there's still a 10 million+ gap.

If Fox indeed has the first pick for the Big 12, I wonder if the take Texas Tech v CU to put in the Bug Noon window as it would probably draw better than the Boise game or Holy War you have them slotting in at 4:00.

Matt Sarzyniak said...

I don't know. CU's drawing power has been lessening over time. Some of that has to do with their have being slotted later in the day.

Gophers Rutgers can’t be on Peacock at 2:30 pm central since Gophers mens basketball is playing Nebraska Omaha at 2:30 pm central on Peacock on November 9th

Matt Sarzyniak said...

That has no bearing.

I believe the issue that people are referencing is that Oregon needs another BTN game and Maryland seems much more fitting than kicking it to Oregon-Washington on 11/30. Sources indicated to Brett McMurphy that is their preferred game on 11/30

Jay said...

I think the Gophers Rutgers game will be at 11 am central on NBC or Big Ten Network

How would Maryland Oregon be in BTN if they have the noon slot? Don’t think they are doing any 9 AM west coast kickoffs, right?

Matt Sarzyniak said...

It wouldn't. They could place the BTN window at another time.

Anonymous said...

That is true but the top 5 games involving Big 12 teams this year have been CU games, and BYU did not draw that well even when Big Noon Kickoff travelled to Provo to hype the game. CU is not the draw it was last year, but it is still the best draw in the diminished Big 12.

NBC would have to be completely idiotic to take Minnesota-Rutgers.

Jay said...

The game might be on FS One at 2:30 pm but most likely the game will be on the Big Ten Network

Jay said...

I think the game will either be on FS one or the Big Ten Network

Is there any chance UM @ IU is in primetime?

Darrell McKown said...

I think Rutgers-Minnesota will be on Peacock. I don't expect FS1 to have a Big Ten game (because I think Oregon-Maryland will end up on BTN).
