CFB 2023 TV Week 3 Guesses - Revised

This is a revision to the original early season guesses for Week 3 .  Revisions are in red and include strikethroughs for my changes.  Will attempt articulate a few things.  There are less revisions to this particular week.

Here's where you can find the full schedules on my site for 2023.  If a game isn't listed in these guesses, assume its being streamed.

Thursday
7pm ACCN: Bethune-Cookman at Miami (FL)
7:30pm ESPN: Navy at Memphis

Friday
8pm ESPN: Army West Point at UTSA

Saturday
* Like the first two weeks, I've brought back the ACC RSN package.  If the package isn't going to happen, assume this game gets streamed via ACC Network Extra/ESPN+
* I flipped the San Jose State at Toledo and Vanderbilt at UNLV games on CBSSN.  UNLV gets to play at Allegiant Stadium, but they often need to clear their dates with the Raiders.  I can see them asking for the game to air early in the day.  I don't think the game would get moved to Friday as I suspect Vanderbilt would have to approve it.
* Similar to that, I think the Indiana vs. Louisville game being played at Lucas Oil Stadium might end up being an early game in the event the Colts play the following day.  I originally had it as a noon game.  I think Alabama at South Florida is fine in mid afternoon.

I believe in FOX's contract with the Big Ten they have 24-27 games between FOX/FS1 in 2023 and 30-32 between 2024-2029 (Source: SI). Can FOX air Saturday games in time slots other than noon ET or just in noon ET, especially since in 2023 CBS can't air 3:30pm games while they're still under contract with the SEC?

Also, where will CBS's other games air? Could CBS and FOX "trade slots" in 2023 where CBS airs a noon game and CBS a 3:30 game?

I think they'll try to stick to their assigned slots with some flexibility. I'm told Notre Dame will have a couple NBC primetime games, so they'll carry a few Big Ten games in mid afternoon. For this season, CBS really won't have an assigned slot, other than 3:30pm ET is out due them most of the year.

So yeah, I think you'll see FOX carry two Big Ten games on their broadcast network occasionally alongside one of the other networks in 2023.

NBC's Notre Dame prime time games in 2023 seem obvious to me, Ohio State on Sept. 23 and USC on Oct. 14. NBC can then air 3:30pm Big Ten games those weeks to lead into the Notre Dame games. They also look like good opportunities for CBS to air prime time Big Ten games then.

I'm told they have two other Big Ten 3:30 games that doesn't have a ND game following it but another Big Ten game.

As for CBS, I don't know if they'll go back to the well for the primetime doubleheader the week Alabama and TAMU play. Maybe they go back to the LSU-Alabama primetime game date.

Not SEC in prime time, Big Ten in prime time on CBS on Sept. 23 and Oct. 14. If NBC airs a Notre Dame game in prime time instead of a Big Ten conference game, why not let CBS air a prime time game that week? The week CBS airs the SEC in prime time they still have to air the SEC at 3:30pm anyway.

They certainly could. I had the UA-TAMU game in my head as 10/14, but it is 10/7.

Matt, with the new Big Ten deal do teams still have to play at least 2 games on BTN? Pretty sure that was the rule before

Matt Sarzyniak said...

To my knowledge this has not changed with the new TV deals

Thoughts on North Texas TV lineup?

I don't think about this on a team by team basis. If a game isn't listed, as I mentioned at the top, assume it is being streamed.
